Historic Mile 456 - 463 Muncho Lake

  • Refueling Stop and Checkpoint. The road around the lake was a particular challenge. Workers had to cut their way through the lake's rocky banks and use horse-drawn "stone boats" to haul the rock away.

Historic Mile 456: Muncho Lake/ Refuling Stop and Checkpoint - The road around the lake was a particular challenge. Workers had to cut their way through the lake's rocky banks and use horse-pulled stone boats to haul the rock away. This is the only lodge open year round between Fort Nelson and Watson Lake. Historic Mile 456

Muncho Lake (pop. 29), is known for its beautiful deep green and blue waters, is 7 miles/11 km in length, and 1 mile/1.6 km in width; elevation is 2,680 feet/817m. Camp at Muncho Lake Provincial Park; this jade green lake is nestled in a valley surrounded by folded mountains and brilliant wildflowers.

The campsites are nice and some are very secluded. Some of the sites are right on the lake. There are trees and shrubs between the sites. This is a very pretty campground.

Located on the Highway Alaska approximately 51 km northwest of Toad River on Highway 97.
